Parasailing

Photos:

2. Happy to be back on the boat!
3. The Seabird (Steve and Carol Argosy's 62' Nordhavn).

For today’s adventure, the girls decided they wanted to go parasailing. We had seen the boats around (complete with large font phone numbers) so we called and they sent a boat over to Caneel Bay to pick us up. The view from 600’ up was pretty spectacular but we didn’t want to risk a digital camera on the end of a long rope over water! They took a disposable camera up and we’ll have to wait awhile for those photos. Back on the boat, Lara and Jim snapped away madly with the digital cameras. We especially liked it when the boat driver slowed down and dipped the girls in the water! The girls did their best to walk on water and were hoping that they didn’t have to swim back to the boat.

This is actually a pretty neat operation and they leave from a platform on the back of the boat and are slowly winched back down for a stand-up landing.

On the way out, we passed Eric Clapton’s boat (the “Blue Guitar”). We didn’t stop to chat.
We were also moored next to a beautiful Nordhavn 62 (trawler hulled long range cruiser). The boat was named Seabird and home ported in Mystic, CT. Since our Wi-Fi connection works on the boat (next to the Caneel Bay Resort), we googled them and found that the owners are Carol and Steve Argosy and they have a website (http://www.seabirdlrc.com/) with all sorts of neat info about their travels and their boat. Lara told me that she would be happy to live on THAT boat (all $1.5 million!). Emily has informed us that we are acting kind of like those creepy stalker types by tracking them down on the internet. After snorkeling at Henley Cay on the Durloe Cays (beautiful coral), we made a quick dash across the Windward Passage to Jost Van Dyke Island for the New Year’s party at Foxy’s. We were surprised and pleased to find a good anchorage in Great Harbor on Jost Van Dyke and were even more surprised and pleased to find the Seabird (see above) already here. After being “stalked” by Richard Branson and Eric Clapton, we don’t feel too bad “stalking” the Seabird. We’re not sure how they feel about it but we’re going to see if we can strike up a conversation…
