The trouble with Mangroves.

Photos:
1. Close hauled on the way back to St. Thomas in a pretty stiff breeze.
2. Lara standing on the beach in Bahia Salinas del Sur on Vieques (Notice the sign in the background. This is the one saying "no trespassing" and "danger-explosives.")
3. Mangroves in Ensenada Honda (if you look closely you will see little specks...err...mosquitoes).
4. Bonefishing flat at Ensenada Honda.
5. Restored Spanish lighthouse at Isabel Segundo on Vieques. Yes, it is raining.

We seem to have seen the worst of this high-pressure system. As we mentioned, we ducked into a mangrove bay to find calmer waters. However, the trouble with mangroves is that when the wind dies, the mosquitoes come out. These are not your garden-variety mosquitoes. These are Jurassic mosquitoes.

This morning I went to the V Berth (the closet where Lara sleeps). She looked like a mummy – all wrapped up in a couple of sheets. Her head was under a pillow. Not an inch of her body was showing. I laughed and told her that the mosquitoes were bad at my end of the boat as well. Out from the bundle of sheets came her hand clutching the can of OFF. Pffffft. She SLEPT with the can of OFF.

I am worried that she might be huffing….

So basically the winds are either too high or too light but never just right. Maybe we are just too picky! Oh well, it’s time to try sailing again!

And the adventure continues for you and for all of us on this end of your blog...the weather has certainly been an issue...the pictures are great, but I really enjoy your dialogue and wonder how you would be surviving without having us to write to...it seems a bit isolated at times, but maybe I need to have people around more than you do...I look for a new entry each day...so keep having a great time, as I am having a great time reading and learning from you...Rena
