Last night we anchored in Smuggler’s Cove on Santa Cruz Island in the Northern Channel Islands. Dale got to prove that he is capable of counting yardage markers on the chain and that he also understands the “rightie tightie, lefty loosey” concept for tightening the gypsy on the windlass. As a reward the Captain gave him an extra ration of grog.
In the morning, Dale drove us off the anchor while I retrieved it. No drama.
The day today was absolutely glorious. Sunny, almost no wind, calm seas, tons of dolphins and False Killer Whales.
The only thing missing was the fish that refused to bite. We found a large kelp patty and could see the dorado swimming around but they were completely uninterested in what we had to offer. Oh well…. That’s what restaurants are for.Tomorrow morning we’re planning a leisurely cruise down the north coast of Catalina to Avalon Harbor. After leaving the “boisterous” seas of the central and northern California coast it’s really nice to enjoy the calm seas in southern California. The water temps are in the low 70’s and Dale keeps trying to talk me into going swimming. I think I’ll wait for his report….
