Thursday 7/24 Last Day in Canada

We actually secured a reservation last week at Pender Harbor (Hospital Bay, Mainland B.C) for Tuesday night. Hurrah for us, we finally figured it out; it only took us a month to secure a reservation.

Fisherman’s Marina (operated by a David Pritchard who is not a fisherman and knows very little about fishing) is a quiet and well cared for smallish port, with beautiful lawns and flower gardens, cottages over looking the Sea. The book exchange was fabulous, the internet - lightening fast and free. By the time we arrived (after 4pm) the party had already started; our neighbors on the dock were a ruckus bunch. We just wear ear plugs - we don't want to be a bummer on anyones party.
We spent hours reading email (197 showed up for Lara), updating the blog, making flights/car reservations, accepting invitations, checking weather windows etc...

The following day we in processed at Friday Harbor, San Juan Island and stayed overnight on the Customs Dock.

Your blog is impressive in that you keep the high quality narrative going every day.

Going through the rapid is reminiscent of going up/down the east river in NYC. My two transits in 2006 were quite different. One we hit perfectly and had a grand time. Coming the opposite way, we mis-read the cruising guide and got hit with currents as high as 9 kts in Hells Gate. This was no fun...or as I called it a high anxiety event.

We will be re-splashing the First Forty at the end of Aug and cant wait to fire up the diesel. Stay safe and have fun. We will see you in late Oct.
